Silicone-based coatings are not new, but as the environmental impact of PFAS has become widely recognised, the demand for PFAS-free solutions has grown rapidly. Bakers Coating has worked with silicone-based coatings for nearly 15 years, and we remain at the forefront in both expertise and production. Modern Silicone Coatings

When using Sol-Gel coatings, the extremely high curing temperatures of PTFE (around 400°C) can be avoided — temperatures that are unsuitable for aluminium, for example. Sol-Gel cures at approximately 250°C, making it ideal for thin profiles and temperature-sensitive materials. With a surface treatment that withstands both very high and low temperatures, the overall thermal performance of the coated application is significantly improved. Historically, silicone was primarily used in its rubber-like form to create flexible, quiet and scratch-resistant surfaces with non-stick and easy-clean properties — such as baking mats and silicone moulds. Today, silicone technology has advanced to the point where it can visually resemble PTFE, yet without emitting harmful substances or releasing any form of PFAS. This harder type of Sol-Gel is an excellent replacement for many PTFE applications.

PFAS-Free Corrosion Protection

Our Sol-Gel coatings provide long-lasting protection against corrosion-inducing factors such as rust, salt, acids and chemicals. These coatings are developed to endure harsh environments in industrial, marine and automotive sectors, while also being suitable for medical and biotech applications where contamination tolerance is extremely low. Regardless of industry, it is reassuring to know that your components can be used without the health risks associated with PFAS exposure. Recoating with PFAS-Free Solutions Another important sustainability benefit is that Sol-Gel can be recoated. For both high-precision machine parts and high-volume applications, the ability to apply a new PFAS-free coating when the old one wears down can result in significant cost savings.

CeraShield – Bakers Coating’s Ceramic Sol-Gel

Bakers Sol-Gel “CeraShield” is a ceramic Sol-Gel system that is spray-applied in one or two layers. The coating provides a very hard surface with excellent scratch and wear resistance, while also offering strong non-stick performance and easy cleaning. In food production, reduced need for release agents and less burnt residue are major advantages.

Because CeraShield cures at lower temperatures, it can be applied to thin constructions made from aluminium and stainless steel. Compared to standard coatings, the overall energy consumption is lower — both during the production of the CeraShield formulation and during the coating process itself.

SilcoPro Red

SilcoPro Red is one of our most widely used silicone coatings. It is spray-applied in a single layer and is most commonly used on aluminium or steel.

The coating is suitable for all types of baking applications, and its exceptional non-stick properties make it ideal even for sweet doughs. Its high-gloss finish and chemical resistance also make it an excellent choice for professional bakery environments.

We can also provide the coating in customised colours to match your specific preferences.

Grey Silicone – SilcoPro Grey

The grey silicone resin is an all-round coating suitable for both baking moulds and trays. The surface offers good resistance to fats and can therefore be greased when needed.
